The formation of Cathedral Academy allows the Diocese of Bridgeport to invest in our students, rather than in aging buildings in need of significant repairs. Financial resources used for facilities at some of our existing schools can now be dedicated to the education of our students. The new plan will allow Catholic education to grow.
The creation of Cathedral Academy supports a visionary plan to sustain Catholic education for Bridgeport students of all faiths who wish to attend a Catholic school. Cathedral Academy, together with Kolbe Cathedral High School, with which it will share the St. Augustine campus, will become a center for academic excellence and faith-based learning for children from Pre-K through Grade 12. Further, the students of St. Ann and St. Andrew will be able to participate in the academic and co-curricular opportunities based at Cathedral Academy, including programs in conjunction with Kolbe Cathedral High School. Cathedral Academy will offer two classes in each grade, encouraging student growth, strong academic programs and improved professional development opportunities for teachers. We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Jo-Anne Jakab, principal of Kolbe Cathedral High School has agreed to serve as the first President of Cathedral Academy while continuing in her current role as principal of Kolbe. Additional school leadership and staffing announcements will be made in coming weeks. We look forward to the emergence of Cathedral Academy as a center for not just students, but for their families through the support of our Catholic community of faith.
